Details for Kindermusik of Berry College

Kindermusik classes begin on January 11

Details you should know to make your Kindermusik experience go smoothly:
  • Directions
  • The college students also return to campus on January 11.  This means more cars in the parking lot, more students driving to class.  BE CAREFUL in the parking lot and crossing the street.
  • The new welcome center is now open and the gate is operational. For details on the gate and how it affects coming onto campus, click here.  If you don't have an electronic pass on your car, they will scan your ID at the gate. You can get an electronic pass and make your entrance quicker, or just allow more time to get to class.  If you want the pass, there is a yellow form to fill out and you can get one from your Kindermusik teacher and then take it to the campus safety house across from the main entrance.
  • Allow plenty of time to find a parking place and get to class. Once you arrive on campus, it will take you at least 5 minutes to get from the parking lot to the classroom.
  • The elevator is a great asset.  Please help us keep the alarm from ringing or the help button from being pushed. Buttons are inviting to children, and they are low...but keep them from calling security! Let them push the "floor" buttons, but stay away from the red and yellow ones!
  • Please use quiet voices and walking feet as you enter the building. First floor where you access the elevator is full of offices. Once on third floor there are college classes in session. If you have to take your child in the hall during class because he or she is crying, go to the north end of the hallway or the restroom to avoid disrupting classes.
  • In case of severe weather, Kindermusik follows the Floyd County Schools. If the Floyd county schools are closed due to inclement weather, then Kindermusik will not meet. If the county cancels classes after 2 p.m., you will need to call the Kindermusik office concerning afternoon and evening classes, OR check for an update on the blog.
  • Kindermusik of Berry College does not follow a specific school system for breaks, so teachers will announce these to individual classes. There will also be announcements on the blog.  No classes on Martin Luther King Day.  Monday classes will continue through May 2.  Other classes will end the week of April 25.
  • LIKE US ON FACEBOOK.
  • Tell your friends about Kindermusik! We love it when you spread the word about your experience!
If you have questions or concerns about anything in class, talk with your child's teacher.

CHANGES ARE COMING

A big change is happening on the Berry campus and it will affect Kindermusik.  The construction of the beautiful new welcome center is almost complete and opening soon.  Berry faculty, staff and students will be issued new stickers that will allow them automatic entrance to the campus via an electronic system.  Here is what you need to know:

Those without Berry stickers will enter through a visitor’s lane and be asked for identification.  The process should be very quick. With time, we plan to enable some of our regular  visitors to purchase stickers for a charge that covers the sticker cost.   We hope to put this program in place later during 2015, after we have completed the transition with the Berry community and have addressed any technical or procedural issues.  Until then, those visitors are welcome to enter through the visitor’s lane.

There is always a learning curve with a change and new procedures.  You may need to allow a few extra minutes to get to class on time and thank you for your patience as Berry makes these adjustments.  An announcement about the commencement of this new policy/procedure will be sent via email and also made on the blog.

REPETITION IS GOOD:
 REMINDERS ABOUT BEING AT BERRY!

  1. Allow plenty of time to find a parking place and get to class. Once you arrive on campus, it will take you at least 5 minutes to get from the parking lot to the classroom.
  2. The elevator is a great asset. Please help us keep the alarm from ringing or the help button from being pushed. Buttons are inviting to children, and they are low...but keep them from calling security! Let them push the "floor" buttons, but stay away from the red and yellow ones!
  3. Please use quiet voices and walking feet as you enter the building. First floor where you access the elevator is full of offices. Once on third floor there are college classes in session. If you have to take your child in the hall during class because he or she is crying, go to the north end of the hallway or the restroom to avoid disrupting classes.
  4. In case of severe weather, Kindermusik follows the Floyd County Schools. If the Floyd county schools are closed due to inclement weather, then Kindermusik will not meet. If the county cancels classes after 2 p.m. check for an update on the blog or on the Y Kindermusik of Berry College Facebook page! 5. Kindermusik of Berry College does not follow a specific school system for spring break, so teachers will announce these to individual classes. There will also be announcements in class, on the blog and on Facebook.
If you have questions or concerns about anything in class, talk with your child's teacher.

Tis the Season - Registration in progress

There are many fabulous activities for you and your child, but we believe Kindermusik is the best choice!  Quality music, new friends, age appropriate activities, and learning is at the forefront of all we do.  Are you thinking, let's try something new because we have already done Kindermusik, remember that children need familiar, and they need repetition.  For children in Imagine That and Young Child classes they are just beginning to respond appropriately and learn key concepts in the music making process.  Do you have questions, ask your teacher or email Kathryn and she can help you choose the right class for your child.

Spring semester will bring new songs, activities and friends to Kindermusik. Don't miss out, register today.  Registration is online, and you can choose to pay with credit card, check or make payments.

You can save $15 if you pay in full by December 1. This can be confusing, so here's the explanation. The fee listed in the brochure is the amount after December 1.  For example - if you are registering for Kindermusik Our Time, the fee listed in the brochure is $205. Pay in full by December 1 and it is $190.  When you pull up the online registration $190 is the amount you see before December 1, after that date the amount listed will be $205.

The fall semester is coming to a close and here are some dates to remember:
  • Monday classes will meet on November 24.
  • Kathryn's Tuesday afternoon classes (Beyond and Young Child) will meet on November 25 which is Thanksgiving week.  Beyond class will meet on December 2, but not Young Child due to the Christmas parade.
  • No classes the week of Thanksgiving except those mentioned above.
  • The last day of class will vary depending on the teacher.  Monday classes will end on December 1.  Most classes will not end until the week of December 8, but ask your teacher to be certain.  Kathryn: knobles@berry.edu  Kay: brattonk@bellsouth.net  Wendy: hamilton80@aol.com
The holidays are busy.  Here are some local activities to enjoy:
  • Tell-a-bration storytelling at the Rome Civic Center.  Saturday November 22 at 7 pm
  • Rome Christmas parade is Tuesday December 2 at 630 on Broad Street in downtown Rome.  It's' a great family outing.
  • Beauty and The Beast is a great show to enjoy this holiday season.  Check out Rome Little Theater for details.  Show opens on December 5.
  • Oak Hill and the Martha Berry Museum host their annual Carols and Candles tour on December 5 and 6.

Spring Breaks...coming soon!

Though the weather and calendar still say winter, many school systems have a spring break in the near future!  Kindermusik of Berry serves families from various systems encompassing several counties, so trying to choose one break is impossible.  Teachers decide what works best for them and their schedule.  That said, here is what you can expect:

Ms. Kay will NOT have classes the week of
March 3 - 8 (Berry's spring break)

Ms. Wendy will NOT have classes the week of
March 25-29 (Rome City's break)

Ms. Kathryn will NOT OBSERVE any breaks....
if you are in town, come to class!

Summer Schedule & Maps

The summer schedule is out, and it actually begins with Maymester classes. You can pick up a brochure when you come to class or find it here.  Don't wait too long to make your decision, because there is quite a buzz about registering for certain classes with friends!!

The spring semester has about 5 more sessions, depending on who teaches your class.  Please note that Ms. Wendy's classes will NOT meet the week of March 26.  Ms Kay & Ms Kathryn's classes WILL meet every week, as they are not observing any of the school breaks.

This week in Imagine That we are exploring maps, and places we would like to visit on our train trips.  Imagine That is all about using our imagination and discovery. The children in the Thursday 11 a.m. class brought in maps of places they like to visit.  Here's the group: Avery, Matthew, Alexa, Charlie & Garrett.  My phone doesn't take the best pictures, but you get the idea!
The large map is Avery's world, and it was created as a Christmas gift by his mom.  It's some of his favorite places, and it includes Kindermusik!  Here's another shot...do you see the castle at the top of the map?
Where do you want to go??  Kindermusik can help you imagine it!

A Good Beginning Never Ends, but the semester is over

Fall semester comes to a close this week, and it has been a great time of singing, moving and learning.  It's wonderful to watch the children grow in their Kindermusik experience.  When the semester began there were children who stayed by the wall, and wouldn't participate.  Or there were children who would run, and not participate in the way mom thought they should.  With the encouragement of great moms, dads, grandma's, and nannies the children began to join in the activities.

In Kindermusik we get to watch milestones such as: learning to sit up, taking the first step, vocalizing their way to say hello, singing part of a song, learning to gallop, playing a steady beat, making a friend, and the list goes on and on.  Kindermusik isn't just about music, it's about children and families enjoying time together.

Spring semester begins the week of January 9, and there are still classes available.  You can get a registration form here. The following is an updated list of openings.  If there is nothing listed beside the class, then there are more than 3 spaces available.

One personal story...and there are MANY!
A few weeks ago I was at All-State choral auditions, and a middle school girl came up to me and said, "you were my teacher, I came to Kindermuisk."  Later I saw her mom, who told me that I was the reason she was at the auditions.  I can't take all the credit, but I'm glad to have been a part of her musical journey! As the tag line goes...a good beginning never ends!

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Here are a few updates as Kindermusik of Berry College wraps up spring classes:
  • Ms. Wendy's classes will NOT meet the week of March 28 – 31.
  • If you want to make – up a class, you are welcome to attend a different class, but be aware that not all classes will meet the week of March 28. The spring class schedule is listed at the end of this post.
  • Summer classes are set & the brochure can be found outside the Kindermusik room & online
  • PLEASE DO NOT let your child push the RED, Emergency button in the elevator! Security is getting annoyed! I realize children don't know what they are pushing, just make sure to monitor which button they push.
  • Stay with your child as you enter & exit the building. I know kids like to run ahead & hide, but they forget to remain quiet and there are classes & rehearsals taking place. ALSO, the rain will occasionally cause dangerous depressions in the ground next to buildings, so this is for your child's safety as well.
  • There are 7 weeks remaining in the spring semester, classes will end the last week of April or first week of May…depending on your teacher.
  • The fall class schedule will come out by the first of April, this will allow you to plan ahead.
  • Maymester classes begin the week of May 10, many classes will fill early…so make your selection and turn in your registration. $5 discount if you pay by May 1.

  • Berry College is on Spring Break the week of March 14 -18, but Kindermusik classes WILL MEET that week.
  • Kathryn's & Kay's classes will meet every week through the end of April, no spring break.
  • Wendy will observe spring break the week of March 28 - April 1.
  • Kathryn's & Kay's classes end the last week of April, except for the Monday classes which will continue through May 3.
  • Wendy's classes end the first week of May.

Christmas parade/Kindermusik December 2

The annual Rome Christmas parade will march down Broad Street on Thursday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. It 's a fun tradition, but it typically takes place on Tuesday. Due to the inclement weather we are experiencing today, the organizers moved it to Thursday. Ms. Wendy always plans for parade day because she teaches on Tuesday. The switch to Thursday has upset the Kindermusik apple cart! Here is the schedule for this Thursday.

Beyond Kindermusik and Kindermusik for the Young Child with Ms. Kathryn WILL MEET.

Kindermusik Village at 5:30 and Kindermusik Our Time at 6:30 with Ms. Kay WILL NOT MEET. Ms. Kay will see you next Thursday, December 9 and she will do a make-up class on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
